1:00 PM Mon 2/21/2011 Forecaster Jason: Good afternoon and Happy President's Day! With an arctic front creeping south across the region, temperatures will remain steady or fall slowly from the 40's to the upper 30's this afternoon. Light rain this evening will changeover to snow tonight.

AMOUNTS: A Winter Storm Warning has just been issued for northern portions of the region for tonight, with a Winter Weather Advisory for the remainder of the area. We still expect 3-6 inches of snow tonight for most areas, with slightly higher amounts possible near the Mason Dixon line and lower amounts for southern Anne Arundel County.

TIMING & IMPACTS: Snow will by nightfall will become heavy overnight, falling at the rate of 1-2" per hour in some locations. The snow should begin exiting the region between 6 - 9AM tomorrow, with highs only reaching the mid 30s. Temperatures will fall through the 20's overnight into Wednesday, with extnsive refreezing of slush on untreated roadways, bridges and overpasses. It is highly likely this storm system will affect school schedules both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, as temperatures do not appear to go much above freezing until late in the week.

7:15 AM Mon 2/21/2011 Forecaster Winterman - FINAL CALL:Good morning Maryland! Right now temps are above freezing, but a arctic air comes in tonight, problems will arise by Tuesday morning. Today we will see cloudy skies, with some rain possible this morning. We stay dry for most of the afternoon, until rain arrives again by 7PM. Some sleet could be mixed in immediately with this rain in the northern counties of Central MD which would give proof to a much quicker change over to snow. All areas should be expected to be covered in snow shortly after midnight if not before. Now for our FINAL CALL! We have decided to increase our projected amounts to a general 3-6" of snow accumulation by mid-morning on Tuesday. We do believe it is very possible the northern counties such as Carroll, Baltimore, and Harford counties see locally higher amounts. The reason for this increase in accumulation: All model trends point to more along these lines, and we do believe temperatures will stay in the 40's today which will allow snow to fall earlier than expected and stick to the roads fairly easily.

4:05 PM 2/20/2011

Good afternoon central Maryland! After a very hectic day yesterday, calm conditions have returned to the area along with seasonably average temperatures. Tonight, there is a slight chance for some rain showers, with some sleet mixing in as you head north, but the main threat for wintry weather will be tomorrow night. Currently we believe that precipitation, in the form of rain, will begin throughout the area between 6 and 7 PM Monday night, but will transition to all snow between 11pm and 3am, from north to south. Snow should come to an end around the area by 9am on Tuesday morning. As far as accumulations are concerned, we believe that a general 2-4" will fall in central Maryland with locally higher amounts, especially to the north. Please be prepared to take some extra time to school and work Tuesday morning. We do expect the morning commute to be affected. Please stay tuned for our Final Call being released by 12:00pm tomorrow.

2:10 PM 2/20/2011

Forecaster Jason: Conditions are thankfully much quieter today with surface high pressure building into the region. High and mid level clouds will continue increasing for the remainder of the day as a storm system approaches from the west. Temperatures will be seasonable in the mid to upper 40s. Southerly winds will increase late tonight to around 10-15 mph, with temperatures not falling below freezing for most areas. Heading into President's Day, temperatures will climb well into the 50s with light rain moving into the region late in the day. We still expect rain to transition to snow overnight, and we will post an updated statement later today regarding this storm system.

7:15 AM 2/11/2011

Forecaster Winterman: Happy Friday Maryland! Many temps are in the cold teens this morning, but highs will get into the mid-upper 30's this afternoon. We continue to stay dry, and we await the warm up into the lower 50's by Sunday in most areas. This warm-up will last through next weekend as a preview to spring, but we all know Mother Nature loves to tease. It is possible for the suburbs to stay just below 50 degrees Sunday-Wednesday, but by Thursday of next week all will be in the mid-upper 50's! Have a great day! 10:00 AM Thu 2/10/2011

Forecaster Winterman: Good morning Maryland! Most places directly around Baltimore ended up with just a coating of snow last night, but as you went further south you might have seen up to an inch or two. The picture this morning comes from our photocaster Emily Rund, which represents this light snowfall quite well. Today's and tomorrow's temps will not get out of the mid-upper 20's, but don't worry 50 degree weather is on the horizon by Sunday! It seems like we will stay dry for the next 5 days, which will bring relief to all of our forecasters and anyone who is ready for a few spring-like days! Have a great day!

9:45 PM 2/9/2011 - Forecaster Aaron Salter: Light snow will continue to our south, but for our area, only flurries and possible snow showers are expected. Temperatures will drop down into the upper teens overnight. Clouds will rapidly decrease across the area Thursday with northerly winds only allowing high temperatures to barely reach 30. Hang in there central MD, after one more cold day Friday, a milder airmass will be ushered into the region over the weekend with high temperatures by Sunday near 50° Have a great night!

5:35 PM Wednesday 2/9/2011 The storm system south of the region may spread flurries into southern portions of the area late this evening, continuing into the overnight hours. The best chance for a light dusting of snow will be in areas closer to Washington, D.C. 11:10 AM 2/9/2011 Forecaster Winterman: One year ago today, we were shaking our shovels in disbelief saying, "Not again!" as our third blizzard of the 2009-2010 winter was about to begin. Today is a much different story, though temps are downright cold and highs will barely crack 32.

Clouds will be around the area this afternoon due to a storm system which will pass to our south tonight into Thursday. Another very cold night is in store, as shown by the Sterling NWS temperature map to the left for 4 AM tomorrow. However, if you are sick of all these cold days we have had this winter you are in luck! Spring-like temps in the low 50's will arrive this weekend and stick around into next week!
