9:00 AM 3/2/12 Forecaster Jason: Showers with possible thunderstorms can be expected late this afternoon through Saturday morning, with cooler temperatures arriving Sunday. Good morning Capital Region! Although we currently have sunny skies over the area, clouds will steadily increase across the region heading into the early afternoon hours. Temperatures are around 40°, and will rise into the 50s by noon. We will have a chance for showers and possibly a thunderstorm by late afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s with east winds around 10-15 mph. Chances for showers and embedded thunderstorms will increase this evening into the overnight hours. Low temperatures will be in the upper 40s to around 50°.
Onshore winds will elevate water levels along the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay, and a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 7AM Saturday. A cold front will sweep through the region Saturday morning, with showers and thunderstorms expected during the morning hours. A few strong storms cannot be ruled out at this time. Rainfall amounts will be up to one half inch, with localized higher amounts. Temperatures in the afternoon should reach the upper 50s to lower 60s with west winds around 15 mph.
Temperatures early next week will return to more typical values for early March with highs in the lower 50s. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s for Monday. Plenty of cloud coverage is likely for both days.

Later this afternoon and evening, a significant tornado outbreak is likely across the lower Ohio Valley into the Tennessee Valley. Storms in those areas will be capable of producing destructive winds, large hail, and potentially long-track tornadoes. Howard County Parents- Since tomorrow is an early dismissal day there is no possibility of a delay. We will either have school or not. Always good to have a contingency plan in place.
