SMALL CRAFT STATEMENTS
POSSIBLE HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS TODAY

6:00 PM 5/23 (Forecaster Meagan) - Good Evening, Central Maryland! Finally ready for that break in the heat and humidity? If so, your wishes will be granted this evening a cold front making its way towards our area will pass through tonight and early tomorrow bringing cooler temperatures. Unfortunately that means we have to deal with some wet weather first. Showers and storms will pass through the area this evening, a few possibly reaching strong to severe status, so stay tuned with us for the latest!

TONIGHT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected to make their way into the region by sundown. The threat for thunderstorms is mainly for earlier in the evening, again a few possibly containing heavy downpours, high winds, and some hail. Overnight expect scattered showers to continue, with low temperatures falling to the low-to-mid 60s.

FRIDAY: Grey but cooler. Expect sporadic showers throughout the day, with otherwise mostly cloudy skies. High temperatures will reach the upper 60s with winds from the northwest between 15-20mph and higher gusts near 30mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: The possibility for scattered showers continues, otherwise remaining a little cloudy. The winds will taper off some as the night goes on, but still coming from the northwest around 10-15mph. Low temperatures will be falling to around 50 degrees overnight.

2:20 PM 5/23 (Forecaster Joey) - Good afternoon everyone! Who despises this humidity? A couple pre-frontal showers and thunderstorms have developed across the region, especially areas North, but this they are NOT the main show. Storms will start to line up with the advancement of the cold front and swing through by early to mid evening bringing the threat for heavy downpours and high winds. Stay tuned as we will be relaying any messages, WATCHES, or WARNINGS the National Weather Service may have for us.

REST OF THE DAY: Highs in the upper 70s with mostly cloudy skies. Some breaks in the cloud deck may appear before skies thicken up again for the main line of storms.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with thunderstorms early and showers lasting through most of the night.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy in the morning with scattered showers. Skies will thin out by the late afternoon with cooler temps in the upper 60s and a break in the mugginess!

Have a great one!

10:50 AM 5/23 (Forecaster Mike) – Good morning everyone! Today we are under a “Slight” Risk for severe weather, declared by the Storm Prediction Center. As storms become more likely later in the day, be sure to stay tuned right here in the case that any severe warnings are issued!

TODAY – This morning’s light showers will lead into scattered thunderstorms flaring up later with the main threats being gusty winds and heavy rain. Otherwise it will be mostly cloudy with highs around the upper 70s to lower 80s. Humidity will remain extremely high through the day.

TONIGHT – We’ll remain cloudy, with some thunderstorms possible early, then scattered showers or storms lingering later. Lows will drop generally into the upper 50s to lower 60s as the cold front approaches.

FRIDAY –
A few showers are possible through the day, and skies will be mostly cloudy to partly sunny at times. Temperatures will remain fairly constant from the morning lows, in the low to mid 60s after the cold front brings in much colder air! Winds will be NW at 15-20 mph.

SATURDAY –
Skies will be mostly sunny to start off the holiday weekend! It will be a little on the chilly side though, with highs only in the upper 60s. Winds will be NW at 10-20 mph through the day. Humidity levels will also be significantly lower.

Good evening! Tonight, May 13th, is going to be partly cloudy and in the low 40s.
Hope everyone had a nice Mother’s Day! Yesterday the Sun released a giant solar flare. This solar flare is now known as the most powerful eruption of the year. The peak was at 10:17 p.m. EDT. Solar flares happen when energy that has been stored up in the Sun’s magnetic field is released, or when it gets converted from magnetic energy into heat energy and motion.

It would be nice if one or two members of a bicycle organization knows how to read weather maps like this. It's a good thing weather forecasts are interpreted as such.

Yeah it's pretty nice to have a good weather every once in a while. What I hate are the summer heat because it ruins my summer. I usually prefer staying home and turn the air conditioner on full blast than go outside. -Cadence
