Left the house this morning about an hour ago (9:45 am), tinny flakes but lot of them. 3 inches going on 4 in Bowie, 25 degrees. This storm flip flopped and SOUTH of 95 is going to get a bit more out of this one. Just hope the cold hold till later day so I can get back for a few sled rides down the hill in the back! Looks lovely!

Snow in Catonsville seems to be intensifying. Should this rate continue we will be well over 4 inches before it changes over to ice. The current temperature here is 22 so a lot of warming needs to occur to cause a change over. I see a much later change over than originally expected which will raise snow totals and put tomorrow's school activities in question. I would like to think we are only going to see a 2 hour late opening but at this point it is certainly anyone's guessing game.

Had to go out here in Severna Park for a doctor's appointment. Roads are not good. Other patients reported that 648 (Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard) was a "death trap" and that they were slipping and sliding all over Route 2.

We live on a busy secondary road and conditions are poor. Traffic is pretty heavy considering and I think that will be the biggest problem this afternoon.

Snow is still small and light and dry with no signs of stopping.

Not a whole lot happening here between Westminster and Hampstead. Only maybe an inch of snow on the ground and just a very light, fine snow currently falling.

13:15 -- Denton MD (mid Eastern Shore) changed from snow to ice in past 30 minutes. Total snow accumulation here around 4 inches before changeover.

Maybe 4" and still snow in Hamilton. Steady and small flakes all day. Hope to get to enjoy it before the change.

Currently 2:00 in Catonsville and snow continues to fall at 25 degrees it could still snow for quite some time. It will be interesting to see exactly when the changeover occurs.

Maybe 4 inches in Hampstead.....still coming down....we go from light fluffy flakes to heavy wet ones and then back again......temp is 25 and rising....not sure about the roads.

**TIME TO STAY OFF THE ROADS ALERT** The wife just ask me to go to Safeway and pick up some yellow rice for Tacos. Walked outside to some freezing rain, fell on my ass and slid down the driveway. What a sight! I laughed when I got back up and had to walk on the snow on the side of the driveway to get back to the house. Needless to say, no rice for Tacos tonight!

Muselock oh no glad you can laugh and are ok! It was snowing it's rear end off on South Mountain. The ride from Edinboro was ok dicey in a few spots, I was watching the temp on the car thermometer... got up to 36 on the turnpike 75 mile marker by the time I hit Somerset was back down to 22 and snowing. My van is encased in ice just from the drive so please be careful if you have to go out.

Is interesting with the sun angle in mid February that even up in the Boro when it was 12 the roads melted of in some spots...all for naught it was very cloudy and cold they have a storm on the way this evening.

take care all

Never got above freezing at ground level here but we got a bunch of freezing rain and rain. 5.5 inches in southern Bowie before compaction and rain according to my neighbor who measured while I was still out. Got to test out the chains and new knobbier tires for the back of the atv (the 18 inches with drifts inspired this purchase). I did not have to even use 4 WD on the hill with the chains!

Glad you did not get hurt Muselock.

Good luck with the procedure BP.

Nice snow today...did not get to sled though, maybe there will be a long shot in the beginning of March if we have another arctic breakout. Here's to hoping. Stay safe all!

I am in full frown mode now. ICE STORMS ARE A REAL WHAT A WASTE.

Walked to the neighbors. Any sidewalk that was shoveled was ice. Too slippery for the kids. Surprised City schools haven't said anything about tomorrow yet.

Temperature is rising very slowly, it is still only 27 so will take awhile to bring in the warmth that will break up the ice that is out there now. Tomorrow morning could be difficult for early morning drivers until the temperature and rain finally breaks through.

Westsidehideaway said...

It's really slick and slippery out there. Radar looks like the ice will be here a while. I wonder what the morning will bring.

Just checked outside and it's raining pretty good in Columbia. Temps are still below freezing, so it looks like it's freezing when it hits, but I'm not going out to check. I spent several weeks last winter recovering from an ankle sprain. Radar still looks very pink though. Hope everyone is staying safe!

NeedaSnowday said...

Wow... Sheet. Of. Ice!
Hate ice.. I'd rather have a foot of snow.. If you have to go out... Be careful!

BioPat said...

Just posted my Ice Day Assignments for classes and noted the temperature has just risen above 32 here in Catonsville. I am sure the ground is still frozen so it may take a while for the ice to begin to thaw, I am certain the fog that develops will be the indicator for that occurring. I am hearing the rain on the roof which seems to be coming down at a steady pace; it will be a long morning be careful anyone who must travel this morning.

Ground control to Major Tom. Take your Manwich and put your powderhound jacket on. Commencing countdown, engines on. Check ignition and may God's love be with you.

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
Do you really see a storm
The papers want to know how much snow will fall
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I see the storm moving in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Maryland will be white
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very confident
And I think my computer model runs know which way the storm will go
Tell my wife I would want her to shovel the driveway she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you "Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Storm.
The Mid Atlantic is doomed
And there's nothing I can do."
