The Foot's Forecast Team provides authentic local weather built on a foundation of public accountability for results. Our staff of 50 forecasters and meteorologists lead multi-state collaboration between professionals and students help save lives and protect property. COLLABORATION During Hurricane Irene in August 2011, Lead Forecaster Mark Ingalls from the Pacific Northwest Zone collaborated with Lead Forecaster Greg Jackson of our Three Rivers Team in Pittsburgh and our Tropical Team members in Georgia and Florida to manage the storm. In consult with the Mid-Atlantic and Carolina Zones, our 10-member Irene Impact Management Team posted uninterrupted updates for 36 straight hours due to our unmatched multi-state advantage. While millions along the East coast were in the dark, thousands of our readers in those same power outages had unfiltered access to our team analysis and forecasts on their via their Smartphones.
PASSION During the Spring 2011 tornado outbreaks in the Southeast, Forecaster Jeremy Buckles in Knoxville, Tennessee had to take cover while posting tornado warnings to our East Tennessee page. Forecaster Nikki Byers from our Capital Region Team of southern Maryland, who was also under fire from storms, jumped right in to cover his page. At the same time, Storm Chaser Vince Webb (left) was capturing live video feed in Alabama for ABC Affiliate WATP-16 in Jackson, MS when a downburst threw his storm chase-outfitted truck into a ditch. Severe Weather Forecaster Jason Mitchell in Maryland and Southeast Team Director Daniel Ross from the Metro Atlanta Team provided real-time response to Vince's forecast pages, while conducting meteorological analysis and coverage to the Southeast Team.
