TUE 2-3 EARLY MORNING UPDATE: "I'll DO IT MY WAY...." - Frank Sinatra

Well now, you’re up early. Just had to check things out, didn’t you? Please note this day in your history book....

AT 5:15 AM, BALTIMORE COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED AND THERE IS NO PRECIPITATION FALLING OUT OF THE SKY YET.
Now that doesn't mean they made a bad call.. if anything it was a very good call considering the timing of the precipitation. If you look at the radar on intellicast.com, you will notice there is tons of moisture moving in our direction… and it is all white and pink, indicating snow, freezing rain and sleet. Consider the timetable below as to why I think BCPS and HCPS made this decision:

4:00 – 4:45 AM : County makes the final decision on what to do about the start of school.

5:00 – 5:30 AM : The decision is reported to news outlets. By this time, precip will be starting throughout the area.

7:00 – 7:30 AM : If there was going to be a delay, this is the time frame where the decision to cancel has to be made, as buses would have starte rolling by 8:00 AM to start picking up high school students. It would be apparent by then that the frozen precip is becoming heavier with time, especially N and W of BAL, BCPS would have had to close, and send the bus drivers home. Even though by 10 AM things should start to improve, that is not soon enough in most areas of the county to make a difference. So the choice was made to not inconvenience the bus drivers for 4 hours, and just go on the side of safety.

So my friends, you're welcome. But you knew this was going to happen all along, right? I guess the song for the morning should have been... "dream on." So go back to sleep and catch some more zzzzz's.
