HOLY CRAP

Next Storm
This model is the GFDL, which nailed Katrina's path and intensity fairly well all last week. If you can interpret the wind chart, it indicates max winds of 160 mph.

ANOTHER MAJOR HURRICANE ?

Next Storm 2

HER NAME WOULD BE MARIA

Next Storm 3

Am working on an update and analysis of the post Katrina fallout, as well as post a section of links devoted to the storm and recovery.

High risk of another home brew storm like Katrina developing near U.S. coast in next 10 days. Details soon.

I looked at this storm on a diffrent map and it looks faaaaaaaar out to sea.
How can it curve back towars the US?

Sorry about the typos!
Duh.

Actually the threat will not be from Maria, but likely the next named storm, with the possibility of it developing close to the U.S. so we won't have a lot of lead time.

Is that storm in evidence off the coast of Africa right now or do we have a few weeks respite after Katrina?

I don't know about you, but I can't stop watching the coverage on CNN, MSNBC and Fox. Nor can I believe the government when it says that it had no idea that the levees might give way during that hurricane. I heard the mayor of New Orleans say on the news last Saturday that his city would look like Venice if a Cat 4 hurricane hit there.

YOU said it last week! Even earlier than last week. There is NO excuse for what happened in New Orleans.

Julee,

I too have been distraught and angry at the govt's response, and glued to the coverage, though it's been so disturbing at times I had to turn it off a few times.

You will be absolutely shocked, stunned and amazed when you learn FEMA ITSELF HELD A HURRICANE SEMINAR LAST YEAR IN N.O. AND PREDICTED THE VERY THINGS WE ARE SEEING BEFORE OUR EYES. FOR MIKE BROWN TO SAY NO ONE HAD ANY IDEA IT WOULD BE THIS BAD IS LYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE RIGHT TO THEIR FACE.

Here's the link, on the FEMA website no less.

Thank you for the link!
I agree that FEMA was totally incompetent and criminally neglectful. FEMA of ALL agencies should have been massed in Georgia or Texas with basic supplies on Sunday, waiting to help. If *I* know that, why didn't THEY know that???? It isn't as if they weren't sure where Katrina would strike.
Mike Brown should have been FIRED on Wednesday.
Ugh.

. . . and thanks for letting me vent.

Maureen Dowd in a NY Times Op-Ed piece, called Brown "that blithering idiot".

Julee, he won't get fired...he'll probably get promoted.

I, too, had to turn off the TV...it broke my heart.

Oh, one more thing: I was not happy about paying $3.50 a gallon for gas Thursday... then I came home and saw on the news what "not happy" really was...

Perspective....

I just saw the Maureen Dowd piece! SHE certainly told it like it is!
I heard a piece on NPR by someone named Gary Bridges (I think that's his name). He said that instead of Harry Connick Jr. holding a telethon asking the people of the US for dollars and cents, the CEO of Exxon should get on TV and ask for a 10% salary donation from every other oil company CEO who has reaped an incredible windfall from the recent high prices of gasoline that was bought and paid for weeks ago. I want HIM to be president!
