REPORT: THU JAN 15 - 8:45 AM. While all you in educationland may revel in a delay, some parents who work from home (like me this year!) are not loving life as much as usual. Right about now I would be doing my Oceanography coursework while Sesame Street plays happily in the background to a 3-year old, and her 5-year old sister is happily learning new things at kindergarten. But alas, today is different. Having worked at an elementary school in the past, I can emphasize with teachers having to endure weeks of indoor recess. Still makes me tired just thinking about it, and that was 12 years ago. Maybe we should take a page from Alaska school districts about which it was reported this week they cancel outdoor recess only if the temp is colder than -20 F.
So the question of the day is: if an impetuous little one-third of an inch can delay school on the day of state-mandated testing, how much influence will temperature have when it's 15 degrees colder tomorrow on a north wind and a below zero windchill? You make the call, and vote in our latest poll, but NO wishcasting!
