 Whaddya mean more??

1:40 PM 1/6 -Banding in central and northeastern MD is producing a new round of heavy snow, while forecasters are watching a large pulse of energy developing ahead of the Arctic front.

If you thought the shoveling was done, Mother Nature just uploaded a new "surprise snow" app that does not have "clearing by 1 PM" as a part of it's standard features.

Still snowing where you are? Here's the timing we think may play out the next 6 hours.
  • 1 PM to 3 PM - areas under banding may get another 1/2 to 1".
  • 3 PM to 6 PM - roads begin to refreeze as the sun sets. Meanwhile, the pre-Arctic front system will cross into the southern Blue Ridge and expand eastward. Additional waves of light to moderate snow may precede this pulse, bringing unwelcome light accumulation to the I-95 corridor during and after the PM commute.
  • 6 PM to 9 PM - If the pulse of energy ahead of the Arctic front survives its cross of the Blue Ridge, pockets of snow will continue to pass over northern & central Virginia, central and southern MD into the evening. After 9 PM the full brunt of Arctic air reaches the East coast, with lows dropping to near 10 F for many locations.

My amatuer nowcasting sees that one to the west impacting more around Charlottesville to the tidewater area of VA, but hey, I'd love to be wrong. :)

This has been an interesting storm. It seems to keep coming at us in pieces and certainly could be deemed an "overproducer".

I did get out to pick up some Italian bread for tonight's pasta dinner and my husband even grabbed a quick haircut. The roads have been cleared but with freezing and more snow on its way I see a 2 hour late opening on the horizon for tomorrow.

The models were pretty good for today in the short range. 2 to 4 verified as expected. Problem is it was colder than we are used to with this moderate events with the worst possible timing. What a nightmare on the roads. I stayed off of them. Was not worth 5 hour traffic jams like the one on I 83.
